Spring Blizzard Activities
It’s Spring time in Colorado, so it’s the perfect time for…a blizzard! As a native Coloradan I can tell you that March and April are some of the prime times for big snow storms and today was no exception. Though it was 70 degrees and sunny yesterday, today we found ourselves stuck inside, but there was still plenty of fun without the sun.
First we played some games. Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, and Operation are favorites. For a nice twist on Candy Land we used these cards to do a little sight word review and learning on a day off from school. Big Brother is doing better and better with his sight words!
I decided we should add a little Spring to our frosty day, so I made these window decorations (inspiration here). We just used construction paper and taped them onto the window along with some “Happy Easter” window clings from the Target dollar spot.
Once the snow slowed down, it was time to head out to the front yard while Little Brother was still taking a nap. A little snow shoveling and some snow angels were in order!
We couldn’t leave little brother out, though, so we brought some snow inside for him once he woke up, and Big Brother got in on the action too. A shallow tote/bin works great for this (like a sensory bin), but we’ve also used a big bowl. It’s a lot of fun without too much cold for the little guy.
And because weather can be crazy and weird, we had a few moments of blue skies too at the end of the day. I’m hoping we’ll get back to the 70 degree weather we had yesterday soon, so all the snow will melt. I’m ready for Spring!
